Letters To The Editor Rovner's Pitch

Posted: November 03, 1986

Third Congressional District Republican candidate Robert A. Rovner's campaign pitch to voters is, "A vote for Bob Rovner is a vote against Wilson Goode."

The post that Mr. Rovner seeks is at the federal level of government in a legislative capacity. Mr. Goode is the mayor of our municipality, a different level of government. Mr. Goode is the chief of the executive branch of city government. If Mr. Rovner wishes to defeat Mr. Goode, Mr. Rovner should gather petitions for next year's mayoral race and join the growing number of potential GOP candidates.

I object to Mr. Rovner's distorted perspective, a disservice to all voters in the Third Congressional District. He should direct his public statements toward the incumbent congressman, Robert A. Borski.

Mr. Rovner's attention should point to items that, should he be elected as a freshman member, would occupy his attention during the 100th Congress, items such as possible amendments to the tax-reform law, caps on Medicare deductibles, Social Security, the rising deficit, military versus domestic spending, and both military and nonmilitary aid to foreign countries.
