Three Threes To Open Dinner Theater Tonight

A dinner-theater operation will open tonight at the Three Threes restaurant, 333 S. Smedley St., with a production of Neil Simon's The Good Doctor. The play, a dramatic anthology of stories by Anton Chekhov, will be presented upstairs at 8:30 p.m. on Fridays and at 7:30 p.m. on Mondays until Feb. 6. Tickets, which include a full-course dinner before the performance, are $16.95. Dinner seating will begin at 4 p.m. at the Three Threes, which has been a fixture on the Philadelphia restaurant scene for 59 years. Information: 735-0667.

A new Tuesday-night feature at J.C. Dobbs, 304 South St., is the "Last- Minute Jam," featuring a house band and guest musicians who drop by for sessions. The band features Greg Davis on guitar, Wally Smith on keyboards, George Manning at the drums and Tony Silva on bass. Kathy Roche serves as emcee and jam coordinator. Music - rock, jazz, blues and other forms - begins at 10 p.m. Musicians with an itch to join are asked to come by as early as possible to sign in. Cover for those who just want to listen is $3. Swords Into Plowshares, the energetic Philadelphia folk organization, has expanded the activities of its Blushing Zebra coffeehouse, 7167 Germantown Ave. Starting Monday, the Zebra will have a regular series, Monday Night at the Movies. The first offering, in conjunction with Martin Luther King Day, will be a double-feature salute to black history: Harriet Tubman, starring Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis, and Black Singers in America, featuring Count Basie, Bessie Smith and others. Doors open at 6 p.m. for food and conversation. Movies start at 8. Admission is $3.

The Blushing Zebra also is launching a Tuesday night series of live reggae and Latin American music. Featured next week will be the three-person reggae band Out of Africa. Music will start at 8 p.m. Admission is $3. Information: 438-9344.

The Cherry Tree Music Co-op comes back from its winter break on Sunday night with a concert by local folk singer-harmonica player Saul Broudy at 8 p.m. in the parish hall of St. Mary's Church, 3916 Locust Walk. Joining Broudy will be Lew London on mandolin, fiddle, dobro and guitar; Dennis Gormley on bass, Winnie Winston on pedal steel guitar and Jay Ansill on mandolin. Admission is $6.
