WIDOW ON A SOAPBOX
Since Pennsylvania state Treasurer R. Budd Dwyer's Jan. 22 suicide, his widow, Joanne, has been fulfilling his last request. "Please make sure," Dwyer wrote to his family in his suicide note, "that the sacrifice of my life is not in vain." Joanne interprets her mission to speak out against the plea-bargaining system.
A week after Dwyer's death, Channel 10's Stephanie Stahl interviewed Joanne in her Hershey home for a two-part report. KYW's Harrisburg reporter Dave Sollenberger also interviewed her.
On Monday, Joanne Dwyer will present her arguments to Wally Kennedy and Lizbeth Starr on AM/Philadelphia (channel 6, 10 a.m.) and will accept viewer telephone calls. Also, KYW's Terri Merryman plans to talk to her next week.
