Construction of a veterinary hospital and kennel has been approved for the Five Points area south of Kennett Square by the Kennett Township Zoning Hearing Board.

Caroline Hughes Strange, a veterinarian and a resident of Kennett Square, wants to build the hospital and kennel for her own practice on a 5.8-acre rolling tract in an agriculturally zoned area. Strange said she plans to offer spaces for the boarding of small pets at the kennel.

The tract is bordered by Old Kennett Pike and Cold Springs Road in the Clifton Estates development. The development contains 11 other five-acre lots, some of which have homes. Several homes are also located across Old Kennett Pike from the tract.

No one testified against the plan, which was quickly approved by the board Tuesday night.

The board also quickly approved the plans of Mary M. and Joseph J. Iannorone to convert a small deck into an additional room for their home on White Tail Drive in Burrows Run.

The addition will extend 11 feet into the required 50-foot setback for a rear yard. Joseph Iannorone said that since his lot is so heavily wooded, the addition would have little impact on neighbors, even in winter.
