Police Warn About Under-age Drinking

Posted: June 17, 1987

Delran Township police announced yesterday that they are prepared to issue summonses to teenagers and parents responsible for under-age drinking parties.

Police are threatening stringent enforcement of drinking laws because of problems created by the rite-of-passage parties by Holy Cross' graduating seniors last week.

Tomorrow, 193 Delran High School seniors are slated to graduate. Minors caught reveling at backyard bashes or other keg parties will be subject to sentencing under the township's local statutes for underage and public drinking, with penalties ranging from the performance of community service to fines.

Parents face a possible $1,000 fine and six months in jail if charged with serving, making available, or enticing minors to drink, said Detective Edward Perrino.
