Making an appearance tonight and every night is Pulsar, the talking, dancing robot. He is known for his smooth Yo Baby lines and wandering eyes. Girls beware.
Tomorrow and next Wednesday nights the club is throwing a "Teen Surf Party." Five bucks and a surfer's outfit admits anyone under 21. Again, the strongest thing in the drinks is a maraschino cherry.
And because the last week of August is so deadly dull, here's one more, for Thursday nights: Members of the over-21 crowd can get their faces painted and gorge on pizza and ice cream sodas and beer and wine and cocktails. The price: $10.
Daughters of Jack and Jambalaya, Too: Two local bands play this week at Bacchanal, the bar at 1320 South St. that defies description. (OK. Weird.)
Tonight it's the rock band Sons of Ace. And Saturday night it's Philly Gumbo, the reggae band. Both shows are at 10 p.m.
Smirking Kangaroo: Direct Current is a jazz band in performance tonight at the Blushing Zebra, the coffeehouse at 7167 Germantown Ave. Ken Ulansey leads the band on tenor saxophone. Other players include a jazz harpist, drummer, bass player, and flutist. Music begins at 8 p.m.
Tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. it's audition night. Entertainers of all types are welcome to show-off their talents. First prize is a paid performance at the coffeehouse. Ray Naylor, the emcee, will break up the tension with a magic act. Admission is $3.
Everybody into the Pool: For those able to slip out of work early (3 p.m.), Power 99FM is sponsoring two pool parties this week, complete with free Cokes and Tastykakes.
Today's party is at Jacobs Pool, at Linden and Jackson in Northeast Philly. Thursday, the party moves to Shepard Pool in West Philly, at 57th and Haverford.
