Whatever your romantic fantasy, the South Jersey shore likely can meet your needs with a broad spectrum of intimate havens to ignite, or rekindle, those good old fiery passions.
Here's a sampling of places to give you an idea of the kind of accommodations that are available. (Prices are per room, per night unless otherwise indicated.)
VICTORIAN INN. Wildwood may be just what it sounds like, but there is a quaint haven for those in a vintage romantic mood - the Candlelight Inn.
The charming 83-year-old Victorian inn rents rooms to couples only - no children allowed. (But you had no intentions of dragging them along, anyway, did you?) Each room is decorated in antiques that would do Queen Anne proud - brass beds with lace bedding, mahogany tables and Oriental carpets. The final personal touch: candy and champagne in each room. There's also an outdoor hot tub.
Candlelight Inn, 2310 Central Ave., North Wildwood. Prices are $45 to $85. Room rates include full, cooked-to-order breakfasts. No smoking is allowed. Phone: 609-522-6200.
HIGH-TECH HAVEN. Feeling a little like James Bond?
Well, don't let the humble exterior of the Inn of the Dove in Pleasantville fool you. Beyond those innocent stucco walls awaits a plush, windowless wonderland. The inn's motto is "Escape the world," and each room has a whirlpool bath, steam room, fireplace, wet bar, complimentary mixers for cocktails, a huge mirror on the ceiling, carpeting on the walls . . . and remote controls for just about everything.
There is also the spectacular Dove Suite, where French doors in the bedroom open onto the room's private swimming pool.
Although the Dove does not have room service or a restaurant, the management can arrange a catered, candlelit dinner in your room. If it's a breath of fresh air you need, the inn will arrange for a limousine to whisk you and yours to nearby Cousin's Country House, a restaurant in a renovated historic home.
