Industrial Park Approved

The West Caln Planning Commission has recommended final approval for a 136- acre, 49-lot industrial park near the Chester County Airport after months of give-and-take between the Lancaster County developer and township officials.

Within only 15 minutes at Wednesday's meeting, the commission recommended final approval.

All summer, the commission and township supervisors ironed out details of the plan, requesting the widening of Airport Road from the Route 30 Bypass beyond the Highland Corporate Center to South Bonsall Road because of a sharp curve near the end of the industrial park's boundaries.

Less than two weeks ago, the supervisors softened their request, permitting the developer, High Associates, to widen Airport Road to 24 feet along the industrial park's boundaries and then to taper the road back to 18 feet beyond the park.

When High Associates promised to widen the dangerous curve on both sides of the roadway, the supervisors gave preliminary approval.

"With the widening of the curve, we are sure that the curve will be safe," said Supervisor Thomas Payne.

On Oct. 19, Valley Township gave final approval to the park, which has 100 acres in Valley and 36 in West Caln.

West Caln supervisors have yet to give final approval. High Associates would like to begin construction in January.

In another matter, the commission approved the concept of a 10-lot, 12-acre subdivision on Route 340, east of Old Wilmington Road.

More than two years ago, Fred Breuninger & Sons of Coatesville began construction of the 5-lot, 20-acre Sunset Hills I, a sister subdivision to the proposed Sunset Hills II.
