A 69-year-old suspected drug dealer was kidnapped from in front of his West Philadelphia home by three men yesterday, held captive for two hours, beaten and robbed, police said. A suspect was arrested a short time later.

The victim, Stazola Anthony, was in stable condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

His alleged assailants attracted police attention when they ran a red light in their getaway car after they left Anthony in his 1988 Cadillac at 37th and Spruce streets, police said.

After a chase, officers arrested Maurice Nelson, 34, of Alden Street near Greenway Avenue. The two others escaped on foot after abandoning their car, which police said had been stolen.

Police said Nelson had with him a 9-mm. semi-automatic pistol with a clip containing 29 bullets, and $889 in cash.

Anthony was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 9 on charges of possession and distribution of cocaine, distributing drugs near a school, and establishing a drug manufacturing operation.

He was released on $100,000 bail on March 16.

Police said Nelson and another man abducted Anthony early yesterday morning and took him to the basement of an unknown building, where they were joined by a third man, police said.

Lying on the floor of the basement, Anthony said he heard one man say, ''Tony, take it easy. Don't give us a hard time."

The three men then began beating Anthony with their fists and a "hard object," and demanded he name other people who had money. Anthony said he refused, and the beating continued.

Anthony told police he was dragged from the basement and pushed into his car. The men then drove him around Philadelphia until almost 3:30 a.m., when they stopped and got out at 37th and Spruce streets, within sight of a police car.

Police Officers Mary Cenick and Leonard Girard of the 18th District became suspicious because one of the men was wearing a hooded sweatshirt tied tightly over his face.

The men then got into a dark blue 1989 Pontiac and drove away.

Cenick and Girard went to the Cadillac and saw Anthony in the back. He told them he had been robbed of $675.

A little more than a block away, the getaway car ran a red light and was spotted by another patrol car. Officers chased it to 41st and Chestnut streets, where the occupants fled.

Nelson was charged with robbery, kidnapping, aggravated and simple assault, receiving stolen property, theft and weapons offenses.
