Taxing The Post Office's Resources

Harriet Treatman of Gladwyne hands her tax return to postal clerk Norvella Stevenson outside the main Post Office at 30th and Market streets last night, just before the midnight deadline. Last-minute taxpayers were met by postal workers who stood between lines of traffic for blocks, collecting state and federal tax returns. A post office spokesman said late last night that 40,000 to 50,000 pieces of mail had been dropped off outside the office.
