WRINKLE-FREE. Want to avoid wrinkles? Move to Portland, Ore. Yes, rainy old Portland has the best environment for averting wrinkles, and hot Phoenix has the worst, according to a survey of dermatologists and plastic surgeons conducted by Collagen Corp., manufacturers of injectable collagen, the protein that gives skin its elastic texture.

DRINKING AND PREGNANCY. Hard-core drinkers would ignore labels on liquor bottles warning that alcohol can cause birth defects. So said a Western Washington University psychology professor, testifying in the country's first lawsuit against a liquor company by parents of a child born with fetal alcohol syndrome. A 1981 King County, Wash., survey showed that 99 percent of pregnant women had heard of the possible harm of drinking while pregnant, George Cvetkovich said.

AMERICANS ABROAD. Given our druthers, we'd take their fantasy vacation on the continent or on some tropical island. That's according to a survey by Louis Harris Associates for Travel & Leisure magazine. On the assumption that money and time were no object, 33 percent of those surveyed picked Europe, 24 percent named Hawaii, 16 percent chose the South Pacific and 14 percent wanted to see the Caribbean. Only 6 percent dreamed of around-the-world tours, and 3 percent wanted to visit China.

AIDS HOTLINE. For the latest information on the availability of experimental AIDS therapies, call 800-874-2572. The new government hotline will operate between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
