TO SOME FANS, CAMDEN'S AS CLOSE AS PHOENIX

The recent bidding war between New Jersey and Pennsylvania over the Flyers and Sixers is a joke. The two teams are stabbing their loyal fans in the back by even considering the move to New Jersey. Although the move would only take the teams across the river, it may as well be to Phoenix. The two teams better prepare to lose many fans, like me, who have supported them over the years.

Story continues below.

Furthermore, if the two teams want to cut off their ties with the city by moving to Jersey, they shouldn't be allowed to use Philadelphia in their titles.

TEAMS AND DOLLARS

There are serious problems in Philadelphia that need attention. People, places, pot holes and police protection!

Sports owners want a free sports complex - none of their money involved! Yet, they are receiving large sums for present and future television rights and yielding to megabucks and multiyear contract demands from athletes who fail to be consistant producers of their potential talents. Professional people, doctors, lawyers, etc., strive each year to be the best and upon a satisfactory year they justly deserve their money.

It would be of interest to all Delaware Valley residents to know: How many fans remain in the city overnight or for two or three days. How much real revenue is generated outside the sports area (not counting concession operators)? If a sports team will agree to a 99-year lease to remain in the city and if the franchise is sold, will the new owners abide by the lease and remain in the city?

The hard-working, city-dwelling taxpayer is not a naive person. If the elected officials are concerned about their re-election let them present their stand on this sports complex issue.

DON'T GO TO CAMDEN

The State of New Jersey is trying to take the Flyers and 76ers to Camden. I don't like it. The thought of even losing the teams makes me shiver.

Some people say to just let them go and forget about it. I just don't think the teams should move to Camden. What happens next? We lose the Eagles and the Phillies? I don't want them to go, and I think many other people feel the same way I do.

SCHOOLS WITHOUT BOOKS

I'm a student at an inner-city school where there isn't enough funding to supply the faculty with the necessary means to teach. Our education is being hindered.
