Graterford Officer Held In Attack

An off-duty correctional officer was arrested last night after he allegedly pistol-whipped a Frankford man near the victim's house, police said.

Jose Negron, 26, was on Frankford Avenue near Fillmore Street about 7 p.m. when he was attacked by the officer, Timothy Wilson, 33, police said. The altercation apparently grew out of a conflict between the two men about a month ago.

Police said Negron, of Fillmore Street near Frankford Avenue, was struck at least twice on the head with a handgun during the incident. He was treated at Frankford Hospital, Frankford Division, where he received eight stitches.

Wilson, a corrections officer at Graterford Prison since March 1988, was arrested at the scene, where he surrendered a fully loaded Taurus five-shot revolver.

Police said Wilson had a permit to carry the gun, which he had purchased about two weeks ago.

Wilson was charged with simple and aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and a weapons violation, police said.
