Multi-act shows could become a trend in concert packaging this summer, with the Budweiser Superfest featuring the likes of L.L. Cool J, Digital Underground, Ralph Tresvant and more, July 7 at the Spectrum.
Later this summer, the South Philly arena will also play host to the ''Clash of the Titans" (June 29) and "Operation Rock and Roll," (Aug. 10) both mega-mania shows for your head-banging pleasure.
Pop connoisseurs will savor the likes of Britain's mournful Morrisey (ex- Smiths) playing July 7 at the Tower, and likewise the spitfire folkie Richard Thompson, in a one-nighter with Shawn Colvin at the Keswick, Aug. 8.
Club notables range from Bob Marley's mentor Joe Higgs at the Chestnut Cabaret, June 21, to the lascivious Diviynls, touching us and themselves at the Trocadero, June 26.
The Dell East will be jumping with classic soul acts at popular prices, and Penn's Landing will have its share of good stuff, from Byrd-man Roger McGuinn to Motown great Martha Reeves, in the free Pepsi American Sound Series. A stellar Riverblues Festival should close out July with a bang.
If you don't mind getting in your car and hauling down the highway an hour or two, you'll find lots of major-league rock action - from Guns n' Roses and Jane's Addiction to the Beach Boys - under the stars at the Hershey Park Stadium, Allentown Fairgrounds, Pocono Downs Raceway, Harrisburg Speedway, even on the beach in Wildwood.
