16 Arrested In Chesco Raid; Drugs, Stolen Goods Found

Sixteen people were arrested yesterday in an early-morning raid in Kennett Square that netted four ounces of cocaine, stolen goods and cash, police said.

Undercover officials from the state police's Troop J Vice Unit and Chester County detectives had purchased cocaine and traded items, such as VCRs and Nintendo tapes, for packets of cocaine with the suspects picked up yesterday at the Center Street Apartments, according to police.

The investigation involved a surveillance operation that included police

from Kennett Square and Lancaster and troopers from the state police barracks in Avondale.

State police said more arrests were expected.

Police said they searched four apartments in the building at 6:45 a.m. yesterday and confiscated the cocaine, which was valued at $13,000, as well as stolen televisions, VCRs, tools, guns and stereo equipment. They gave no value on the stolen goods.

The following were charged with selling narcotics and receiving stolen property:

Becemina Zavalz, 34; Andrez Barrera, 27; Angel Generreo, 36; Rita Avalos, 25; Twanna Sue Hoyt, 25; Deborah Ann Hernandez, 27; Jesus Lara, 20; Dimas Avalos, 27; Lorenzo Martinez, 21; Wendy DeHaven, 33; Fausto Batista, 24, and Armando Vega, 21, all of the Center Street Apartments.

Facing the same charges are: Daniy Forre, 21; Pedro Lopez, 21; Luis Santiago, 25, and a juvenile, all of New York City.

They were scheduled for arraignment late yesterday before District Justice Mary Spannuth in Kennett Square.
