Supervisors Approve Plan For Warehouse

A development plan for a 40,000-square-foot warehouse on Hansen Access Road won unanimous approval from the Upper Merion supervisors Monday night.

The warehouse is part of a larger proposed development that includes a 192- unit apartment complex in the Abrams Run section of the township. The apartments proposal was on the agenda of last night's Planning Commission meeting.

The warehouse property, on 5.2 acres, and the residential parcel are owned by the Gambone Bros. Development Co. of Fairview Village.

Both parcels were zoned limited industrial until last December, when the supervisors rezoned the 16-acre vacant parcel for high-density residential development.

The rezoning decision received strong support from a group of nearby residents - many from the Valley Forge Homes who were looking for a residential buffer from several industrial plants.

Victor Maggitti, who owns a concrete-supply business east of Gambone's property, objected to several aspects of the project.

William Sweeney, an attorney for Maggitti, said the board was giving Gambone rights to a private road owned by his client.

After breaking for an executive session, the board chose not to make a decision on the issues raised by Maggitti because they are being argued in court.

Supervisor William M. Keim 3d noted Maggitti had sued Gambone in a property dispute.
