Township Seeks New Finance Chief

Voorhees Township is looking for someone with a head for figures. People with a fear of numbers need not apply.

The Township Committee interviewed three candidates Tuesday night for the position of chief financial officer. The job involves working with the township's auditors in examining the finances, preparing the municipality's budget, authorizing purchase orders and investing funds, said Voorhees Mayor Pamela J. Hammer.

The position was vacated in June by Bruce B. Finkle, who had been with the township for more than seven years, said Mary Gard of the Voorhees Township Administrator's Office.

Finkle left Voorhees to become business administrator in the Bellmawr School District, Gard said.

To simplify the search for a replacement, the Voorhees Township Committee asked its auditing firm, Bowman & Co., certified public accountants in Voorhees, to sort through the job applications, said Hammer.

Four candidates eventually were presented to the committee, the mayor said, but one had already taken another job by the time of the Voorhees interviews.

Hammer declined to discuss the three remaining candidates or say when the Township Committee expects to make a decision on the matter. She did say, however, that the committee is likely to discuss the candidates at a workshop session after the committee's meeting tomorrow.
