Mcavoy-hissey Prevails Again

Lucy McAvoy of Phoenixville and Laura Hissey of West Chester won the Middle States Mater et Filia (mother and daughter) Grass Court Tennis Championship for the third straight year with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Cherry Hill's Diana and Eileen Albaugh yesterday at Merion Cricket Club.

Top-seeded McAvoy-Hissey closed out the first set from 4-3 after leading 4-2. The second-seeded Albaughs narrowed a 2-5 gap in the second set to 4-5, but their effort in the 10th game just fell short.

Eleanor and Joyce Houck of Glenside earned third place by defeating Rose and Rosie DiMascio of Drexel Hill, 6-2, 6-3, in a playoff among the morning's defeated semifinalists.

EASTERN STATES

Jean Lupien of Greenwich, Conn., won the Eastern States Women's Clay Court by defeating Pat Leidy of Phillipsburg, Pa., 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, at Idle Hour Tennis Club.

Naomi Biswas of Narberth and Laura Craft of Eagleville won the doubles title by 6-4, 6-1 over Idle Hour's Mindy Adelizzi and Ruth Dickinson.
