Jailed In Child Rapes

Jackie Gilliard, a former drummer for the rhythm and blues group, the Blue Notes, has been sentenced to 15 to 40 years in prison for repeatedly raping two girls when they lived in his home on Darien Street near Butler.

Gilliard, 41, the father of 17, told Common Pleas Judge James A. Lineberger that he needs help. "I am finally able to admit what I did."

"You have been a drain on society all your life," Lineberger told Gilliard, whom the prosecutor said has not supported his children. "You have never paid income tax in your life. These crimes were horrendous. You took advantage of youngsters at their tender ages."

Lineberger ordered Gilliard into a program for sex offenders while he is incarcerated.

Assistant District Attorney Patricia King said Gilliard attacked the girls while they were growing up.

One victim, the daughter of a woman who was living with Gilliard, was forced to have sex with him between the ages of 8 and 11. She is now 13.

The other, now 21, said she had sex with Gilliard between ages 12 and 16.

"He threatened these kids," King said. "He scared them. He abused one of the mothers."

The case came to light last year when the older girl decided to talk to police after learning Gilliard was having sex with the younger girl.
