Children's Play Tops Fun Set For Holiday Weekend

The Fir Tree opens at Hedgerow Children's Theatre in Rose Valley at 11 a.m. Saturday. The play, which features original music, is an adaptation of the

Hans Christian Andersen classic about a little fir tree that could not wait to grow up.

The play will be performed on Saturday mornings until Dec. 18, and special Wednesday performances are scheduled for 11 a.m. Dec. 22 and 29.

* Madeline, the children's book character, will appear at Borders Book Shop in Springfield for the store's "Vive la France" celebration at 11 a.m. Saturday. Activities scheduled include stories, games and fun, and reservations are suggested. Borders is in the Springfield Square Shopping Center, 1001 Baltimore Pike. For information, call 543-8588.

* Bernice Sherman, the Alphabet Lady, will tell Thanksgiving tales at Borders Books & Music in Bryn Mawr at 11 a.m. Saturday as part of the weekly Kids' Time Series. Admission is free. Borders is at 1149 Lancaster Ave. For information, call 527-1500.

* The Marple Newtown Players Children's Theatre will present The Reluctant Dragon Saturday and Sunday at the Gauntlett Community Center. The show, directed by George Spence, tells about a boy who meets a poetry-writing dragon. It features a cast of 15.

The show is at 11 a.m. Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $2.50 for children and $3.50 for adults. Lunch with the cast on Saturday costs an additional $2. The center is at West Chester Pike and Media Line Road in Newtown Square. For information, call 353-9181.
