Purim Festivities In Wynnewood

A Purim celebration will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Kaiserman Branch of the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Philadelphia, 45 Haverford Rd., Wynnewood.

The free afternoon of family fun features a performance by the Segal Puppet Theater, hands-on holiday arts activities, a costume contest with prizes, food and music. The event is co-sponsored by the Gan Israel Day Camp and Lubavitch House.

LECTURES AND MEETINGS

* Janet Zolot, a national vice president of Hadassah, will speak as part of a conference on "The Middle East: Healing the Conflict, Building the Peace" at 8 p.m. Monday at Pendle Hill Quaker Study Center, 338 Plush Mill Rd., Wallingford.

Zolot is a delegate to the Zionist General Council of the World Zionist Organization.

* The Rev. William J. Shaw, pastor of the White Rock Baptist Church, Philadelphia, will speak at 10 a.m. Tuesday as the 1994 Mitchell Lecturer at the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, 6 Lancaster Ave., Wynnewood.

MUSICAL EVENTS

* The Shlock Rock Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. next Wednesday at Akiba Hebrew Academy, 223 N. Highland Ave., Merion.

Shlock Rock is a Jewish rock band that spreads Jewish pride, identity and awareness through its music. It was formed in 1986 and has produced 11 albums and two videos. Led by Lenny Solomon, the band plays music written by Solomon that parodies pop songs from the 1950s through the present.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $7.50 for students, and $5 for children 12 and under. For more information, call 610-839-3540.

* Bruce Kuhn will perform his one-man show, The Gospel of Luke, at 6 p.m. Sunday at The Blue Church, 940 Baltimore Pike, Springfield.

Kuhn played Montparnasse in the musical Les Miserables on Broadway and was a member of the cast for the national tour of the musical Chess.

The performance is co-sponsored by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. An offering will be taken.

* First Presbyterian Church of Darby, Fourth and Main Streets, will hold a concert by the combined choirs of First Presbyterian and St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Springfield at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Music for organ, piano, choral and bell choirs will be performed.

FUND-RAISING EVENTS

* Tired of shoveling and slipping and sliding? Riverview Presbyterian Church is holding a beach party from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the Fellowship Hall, Riverview Avenue and Garrett Road, Drexel Hill.

Admission is free - just wear a crazy hat and take a picnic dinner and a beach blanket. For more information, call 610-259-2696.

* A pancake breakfast and attic treasures sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Sellers Memorial United Methodist Church, State Road and Sellers Avenue, Upper Darby.

Admission is $3.50 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under.
