Williams is an accomplished singer, has been involved with theater and debate teams at the school, and was vice president of the school's German club.
The UGAC-USA, with headquarters in Philadelphia, is a national organization committed to cultivating German-American friendship and promoting German culture, heritage and language.
DEMOCRACY WEEKEND
* Elizabeth Boyle, who teaches at the St. Bernadette's School in Drexel Hill; David Grace, who teaches at Conestoga High School in Berwyn, and Sister Lucy Marie Schluth, who teaches at Cardinal O'Hara High School in Marple Township, will join 27 other teachers from the Philadelphia area at a weekend workshop next month exploring the meaning of democracy and its global application.
The weekend is sponsored by the Foreign Policy Research Institute's Wachman Fund for International Education. The teachers will meet at the Gregg Conference Center at the American College in Bryn Mawr.
WOODMASTER WINNERS
* Northley Middle School eighth graders finished 10th in a national contest among 188 schools in the WordMaster Challenge. The competition is an exercise in critical thinking.
Members of the winning student team were Erin Murphy, Jennifer LaValley and Adam Griffith.
Northley Middle School is in the Penn-Delco School District.
MATH OLYMPIAD WINNERS
* Fifth-grade members of the Math Olympiad team at Nether Providence Elementary School recently placed 287th out of 3,044 teams worldwide.
Team members were Brian Lowdermilk, Angus Shieh, William Elder, Sara LaFleur-Vetter, Ryan Williams, Josh Bair, Sarah Browns, Andrew Dreibelbis, Robert Koch, Robin McCue, Maribeth Veloski and Aubrey Lax.
The school is in the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District.
