WILMINGTON — Lance Jennings drove in two runs, one with a home run, last night to power Wilmington to a 7-3 victory over the Winston-Salem Spirits and give the Blue Rocks their first Carolina League championship.

Jennings, a catcher, was named MVP of the best-of-five single-A series, which Wilmington swept to win the title in only its second season of play.

Jim Pittsley earned the victory, and Jaime Bluma picked up his first save of the series by pitching a perfect ninth inning. The loss went to Will Brunson.

A three-run sixth inning broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the Blue Rocks as a stadium-record crowd of 7,087 watched at Frawley Stadium.
