Carville's Charm Gone?

Posted: November 10, 1994

Are James Carville and Paul Begala's 15 minutes of political fame over?

The clients of the dynamic duo - most famous for shepherding President Clinton's victory - have taken a trouncing in the past year.

Although Gov. Zell Miller of Georgia won his re-election bid yesterday, Sen. Harris Wofford, D-Pa., lost. That one was seen as especially painful

because it was Wofford's come-from-behind victory in 1991 over Republican Richard Thornburgh that brought Carville and Begala to the national forefront.

Wofford's loss leaves them one for three in the last year. They also ran - and lost - New Jersey Gov. Jim Florio's campaign against Republican Christine Whitman last year.

But their toughest task will be in 1996 - re-electing Clinton, whose party and agenda took a severe lashing in the voting.
