Luncheon And Fashion Show Raise $9,500 For Scholarships To Nurses

The auxiliaries of the Women's Board of Abington Memorial Hospital held their 20th annual luncheon, fashion show and silent auction, "Symphony of Style," Nov. 3 in Ivyland.

The event took place at Spring Mill Manor, and 398 people attended.

More than $9,500 was raised in the benefit for the Nurses' Scholarship Fund.

Receiving scholarships this year were Abington Hospital nursing students Sherry Shaw, Philadelphia; Suzanne Sheeler, Yeadon, and Cynthia Penko and Rosanne Schmidt, both of Warminster.

Chairing the luncheon committee was Leslie Skilton of Churchville, with MaryAnn Watson of Ambler assisting.

Other committee members were Bert De Vries, Southampton; Mary Claire Salzer, Carol Newburger, Kim Harrar and Margie Goddard, all of Huntingdon Valley; Dorothy Blizzard and Elaine Jones, both of Ambler; Marian Boyes, Churchville; Diane Breckenridge, Flourtown.

Also, Sue Calabria, Lansdale; Diane Durell, Buckingham; Doris Egan and Margaret Hitchcock, both of Abington; Harriet Lamberg, Gwynedd Valley; Susan Roth and Susan Teich, both of Dresher, and Kelly Tague, Fort Washington.

ROSE ISLAND GALA

* The Terri Lynne Lokoff Foundation held its seventh annual gala, Rose Island, on Nov. 5 in Philadelphia.

Proceeds will benefit nonprofit, nonsectarian day-care programs in the Philadelphia area.

Jane and Mel Stein of Blue Bell were honorary co-chairs. Co-chairs were Sharon Bell, Norristown, and Amy Ingber, Lafayette Hill, with committee members Lynn Schwartz, Southampton; Monica Szklaruk, Merion; Helene Marks, Lafayette Hill, and Andrea Blum, Dresher.

NAZARETH GALA

* "A Night on Broadway" is the theme for the 1994 fashion show to be sponsored by the Nazareth Hospital Auxiliary Thursday at Fisher's Tudor House in Bensalem.

The theater-inspired event will feature fashions from Lizelle of Havertown.

Diane Fisfis, Huntingdon Valley, is chair.

Committee members include Jeanette Madianos and Nancy Nikoo, both of Rydal; Bea Siliquini, Huntingdon Valley, and Mary Vassallo, Yardley.

There will be a grand prize drawing for an "Overnight on Broadway" package, which includes theater tickets, deluxe hotel accommodations, dinner and parking.

Tickets are $30. Proceeds will benefit the hospital's development fund.

CRAFT SHOW

* The Cheltenham Center for the Arts, 439 Ashbourne Rd., Cheltenham, will hold a craft show and sale Wednesday featuring works by regional artists.

Admission is $3. The show, running through next Sunday, will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. except Friday, when hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Cheltenham Printmakers Guild will host a sale at the center today from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

Fifteen local artists were awarded prizes at the center's 54th annual Membership Exhibition in October. Winning were Myrle Borine and Nina Magil Hausner, both of Cheltenham; Mildred Goldman, Ethel Fabius Ivens, Caryn J. Koffman, Rita Siemienski Smith, Harriet Young and Alma Finestone, all of Elkins Park; Judith Golden, Huntingdon Valley; Carrol Solomon, Jenkintown.

Also, Emanuel Weiss and Mili Dunn Weiss, both of Wyncote, and George Parcel, Zygmunt Sawosko and Arlene Race Wolf, all of Philadelphia.
