N.n. Mayer; Was Office Manager

Nancy Niederriter Mayer, 64, of Wayne, a former secretary, bookkeeper and office manager, died Wednesday at Paoli Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Mayer was born and raised in Norwood and graduated from Notre Dame High School in Moylan. She then began a career as a private secretary at the Westinghouse Corp.'s Gas Turbine Division in Lester.

In 1951, she married and left the workforce to raise a family. When her children were grown, she resumed her career in the early 1970s and started a bookkeeping business in which she worked for area businesses.

She then became an office manager for the law firm of Lamb Windle & McErlane in West Chester and worked there nearly six years until retiring about 1988.

Mrs. Mayer had resided in Wayne for the last 34 years and previously lived in Broomall for many years.

She was a member of St. Isaac Jogues Roman Catholic Church and the Glen Hardie Country Club, both in Wayne, and was a volunteer at Paoli Memorial Hospital and for the Adult Education School Night program.

Mrs. Mayer was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling and playing golf. For the last two years, she was chairwoman of the Ladies' Member-Guest Annual Golf Tournament at the Glen Hardie Country Club.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Roland T. Mayer; children Stephen, Flynn, Jeffrey, Jill Purdy, Beth and Laurie Deering; two sisters; a brother; and 10 grandchildren.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at the Alleva Funeral Home, 1724 E. Lancaster Ave., Paoli. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m at St. Isaac Jogues Church, Walker Road, Wayne. Burial will be private.
