Penguins Win In Ot

It was another Mario moment, a point in a hockey game at which Mario Lemieux takes matters into his own hands and finds a way to get the Pittsburgh Penguins a win.

Lemieux scored a shorthanded breakaway goal at 1:54 of overtime last night as the Penguins overcame a two-goal deficit in the last minute of regulation time and beat the visiting Boston Bruins, 7-6.

Lemieux took the puck from Jon Rohloff at the blue line and put his 42nd goal over Bill Ranford's glove for Pittsburgh's only overtime shot. This time, Lemieux took matters into his hands by using his feet.

``I put a little pressure on [Rohloff],'' Lemieux said. ``I read that he was going to go to the boards. I stuck my foot out there and it hit my skate and bounced forward.''

Tomas Sandstrom and Jaromir Jagr scored in the last 53 seconds of the third period to force overtime. Sandstrom got past two Bruins to beat Ranford from close range and Jagr beat the diving goalie to the loose puck and scored his 40th.

REPORT: FINE FOR BROTEN Neal Broten, who skipped out on an extra New Jersey Devils practice before the All-Star break, will be fined at least one day's pay, the New York Daily News reported.

Under terms of the collective bargaining agreement, Broten cannot be suspended for defying coach Jacques Lemaire's orders to practice the day after a 4-2 loss to the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night. Broten left to be with his family in Dallas.

Lemaire said the center might be scratched from tonight's game against Los Angeles.
