Metrostars Still Winless In Mls

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The New York-New Jersey MetroStars made it through their third game of the new Major League Soccer season last night without experiencing a victory.

They've also made it through two home games at Giants Stadium without scoring a goal.

Last night, in front of 26,416, the MetroStars lost, 2-0, to the Columbus Crew, foiled by some world-class goalkeeping by Bo Oshoniyi.

When Oshoniyi wasn't stopping shots, New York-New Jersey (0-3) missed several open nets and a penalty kick by Tab Ramos. Columbus (2-1) put it away on a goal by Billy Thompson with just over three minutes left.

Columbus had scored the only goal in a mostly dull and sloppy first half, 14 minutes in, against goalkeeper Zach Thornton, subbing for an injured Tony Meola.

REVOLUTION 2, D.C. UNITED 1

FOXBORO, Mass. - Geoff Aunger converted a game-tying penalty kick in the 78th minute and New England went on to a shootout victory over Washington. The Revolution won the shootout, 3-2.
