Wynnewood Temple Names Senior Rabbi

Rabbi Paul J. Citrin has been named senior rabbi at Main Line Reform Temple Beth Elohim in Wynnewood.

He replaced Rabbi Max Hausen, who retired this year after 24 years with the temple. Rabbi Hausen is now rabbi emeritus.

Rabbi Citrin was the religious leader of Congregation Albert in Albuquerque, N.M. for 18 years. Before that, he was associate rabbi at Temple Israel in Boston.

He is a graduate of the University of California-Los Angeles and Hebrew Union College. He received his master of arts degree in Hebrew literature in 1973, the year he was ordained.

He has published several articles on conversion and outreach, and on using literature to teach Jewish values and history. His children's novel, Joseph's Wardrobe, was published in 1987.

SCHOOL HEAD * Michael Norman Aichenbaum has been named head of the religious school at Congregation Or Shalom in Paoli.

Aichenbaum has a master's degree in Jewish education and Jewish studies from Gratz College, and a law degree from the University of Michigan School of Law.

OPEN HOUSES * Main Line Reform Temple Beth Elohim, 410 Montgomery Ave., Wynnewood, will hold an open house at 7:30 this evening. For more information, call 610-649-7800.

* Congregation Or Shalom, 835 Darby-Paoli Rd., Paoli, will hold a series of open houses: a brunch from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday; at 6:15 p.m. Aug. 16 a Kosher barbecue, aimed especially at young families; at 8 p.m. Aug. 23; and from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 8.

* Congregation B'nai Jacob, Starr and Manavon Streets, Phoenixville, will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday and on Aug. 18 and 25.

SWIMMERS * More than 125 day campers participated in ``Swim for Cancer'' and raised $6,000 at JCC Kaiserman in July. The money will go to the Zichron Schlomo Refuah Fund for children and adults with cancer.

From noon to 1 p.m. Friday, the Phillie Phanatic will hand out certificates and prizes to the campers at the community center, 45 Haverford Rd., Wynnewood.

MUSIC * The Gospel According to Broadway is the title of a musical to be presented at 7:30 tonight at St. Colman Church, 11 Simpson Rd., Ardmore, and at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 14 at St. John Chrysostom Church, 605 South Providence Rd., Wallingford. Admission is free.
