Torresani Is New Abington Coach

Posted: August 08, 1996

Dave Torresani, who coached North Penn to a 48-8 record and consecutive Suburban One National Patriot Division titles in the last two seasons, is returning to Abington, his high school alma mater, to become boys' basketball coach.

Torresani replaces Ted Weiner, who resigned in June.

``Ted called me and asked if I'd be interested, but I didn't know,'' Torresani said. ``I had a good situation at North Penn.

``But when I first started coaching, I thought that sometime I wanted to come back to Abington. And this opportunity, as a coach and an educator, is the best situation for me and for my family.''

Torresani had an overall record of 98-56 in six seasons as the Knights' head coach, setting a school record with 27 victories last season. North Penn finished fifth in the district's Class AAAA playoffs and reached the state tournament for the first time.

Before becoming coach at North Penn, Torresani was an assistant at Abington under Jim Wilkinson and was head women's coach at Penn State-Ogontz.

Torresani also will serve as an assistant football coach at Abington.
