S. African Wins In Squash Quarterfinals

Rodney Durbach of South Africa, ranked No. 3 in the world, won one of the quarterfinal matches in the $12,000 Philadelphia Open Squash Racquets Championship yesterday at the Racquet Club.

Durbach came through three closely played games to defeat Juha Raumolin of Finland, No. 43 in the world, by 15-12, 15-11, 15-13.

In another quarterfinal, Jason Nicolle of England, second seeded and No. 25 in the world ranking, barely stood off Damian Walker of Atlanta, 15-9, 15-11, 15-17, 15-14.

Top-seeded Michelle Martin, a three-time world's open champion from Australia, gained the semifinals of the $12,000 women's championship after being challenged keenly by Sarah Cook of New Zealand throughout a four-game match. Martin triumphed by 9-6, 9-4, 6-9, 9-5.

In another quarterfinal, second-seeded Cassie Jackman of England defeated Sabine Schoene of Germany, 9-3, 9-2, 9-3.

The finals today - women at 12:30 p.m., men at 1:30 - are at the Cynwyd Club.
