Bccc Conference To Encourage Teens To Fight Drinking And Drugs

The Bucks County Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence will hold its 11th annual Lead-On Youth leadership conference at Bucks County Community College on Tuesday.

The all-day conference will encourage students to get involved in preventing abuse of alcohol and other drugs. More than 460 students from 42 schools and organizations will participate.

The conference, for sixth to 12th graders and their advisers, will offer more than 30 workshops on drugs and alcohol, violence, health issues, relationships, and eating disorders.

STOPPING VIOLENCE * A workshop on ``Preventing Violent Behavior: We Can Help'' will be offered next week by the Bucks County School Administrators Association.

The free, public workshop will run 8 a.m. to noon next Friday at the Bucks County Intermediate Unit 22 at 705 Shady Retreat Rd. in Doylestown Borough.

The keynote speaker will be Bucks County Judge Kenneth Biehn. The workshop also will include presentations on the Violence Intervention Project for at-risk youths and their parents, and on Families and School Together, a violence prevention program.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION * The Neshaminy School District will hold registration for its September 1997 kindergarten class next Friday.

Parents should take their child's birth certificate or hospital birth registration certificate and, if available, the child's Social Security number. Parents also must provide written verification of dates of all immunizations and proof of Neshaminy School District residency.

Children entering kindergarten must be 5 or older on or before Nov. 1, 1997.

CRAFTS FAIR * St. Paul's Preschool & Child Care Center will hold a crafts fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow.

More than 40 craftspeople will have displays. Lunch and refreshments will be sold. Admission will be free.

St. Paul's is at Shetland and Palomino Drives in Warrington, just off Route 611. For information, call 215-343-1563.

MORE FESTIVITIES * A carnival celebrating spring will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at St. John the Baptist School in Ottsville.

The carnival will include food, face painting, clowns, a dunking booth, and moon-walk game. Admission is free.
