Mtv Marching To Different Drummer In Macy's Parade?

Posted: November 04, 1997

Look out Katie Couric, Al Roker and Willard Scott - Beavis and Butt-head may be moving in on your turf. That's right - while NBC airs its official coverage of the 71st Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, MTV is considering its own coverage, hosted by MTV newsman Kurt Loder and the moronic animated duo.

``It's going to be them talking, and Kurt throwing back to them,'' ``Beavis & Butt-head'' creator Mike Judge said.

MTV hasn't given the concept final approval, although Judge and company have been toiling on the show for some time.

To accomplish the look, the animation will incorporate blue-screen technology similar to that used by TV weathercasters, which will allow MTV to slip in live images of the parade.

The parade, of course, features superlarge balloons of cartoon characters. While there won't be a Beavis & Butt-head balloon in the official parade, Judge said there is a plan to have a balloon hanging around MTV's Manhattan offices.

The parade special will air the day before MTV offers the last original episode of ``Beavis & Butt-head,'' scheduled for 10 p.m. Nov. 28.

While it's the last regular episode, Judge said it won't be the last of the characters.

``At one point, I was thinking it would be cool to have them host a talk show with live guests,'' Judge said. ``And possibly another movie.''

For now, Judge wants to focus on other things, such as Fox's ``King of the Hill.''

``I don't want to be the guy who just can't stop doing `Beavis & Butt-head,''' he said.

An MTV spokeswoman said, ``We cannot confirm that MTV is doing a Thanksgiving special with `Beavis & Butt-head.' ''
