Overton Has Two Ankle Surgeries

DENVER — Doug Overton's season is over. The 76ers guard underwent successful surgery on both ankles Wednesday at the Alabama Sports Medicine Center.

Originally, Overton expected to have a procedure done on his right ankle to remove a bone spur and tighten a tendon, then sometime later have a bone spur removed from his left ankle.

Dr. James Andrews did the necessary work on both. Dr. Jack McPhilemy, the Sixers' orthopedic specialist, said Overton was ``doing well'' and is expected to begin rehabilitation as early as Monday.

Overton, a former star at La Salle University and a member of the Big 5 Hall of Fame, averaged 2.7 points and 1.6 assists in 23 games. In his sixth NBA season, he has been on the injured list since Dec. 30. He joined the Sixers last season. He will be a free agent July 1.

SIX SHOTS The Sixers activated rookie guard Anthony Parker, on the injured list since Feb. 19 with a sore right knee. He was placed on IL so the Sixers could accept Herb Williams and Ronnie Grandison from New York in the trade for Terry Cummings. Both were waived.
