Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Ramon Martinez will undergo what could be season-ending arthroscopic surgery on his pitching shoulder next week, the team said yesterday.
Martinez, 30, will have a torn rotator cuff and torn cartilage in the shoulder repaired on Tuesday.
Martinez, who is 7-3 with a 2.83 earned run average, left his last start on June 14 against Colorado because of stiffness in the shoulder and underwent a magnetic-resonance-imaging test, which revealed the tears.
* The Cleveland Indians traded Geronimo Berroa to the Detroit Tigers for minor-league outfielder Dave Roberts, then claimed pitcher Tim Worrell on waivers from the Tigers. Worrell, 30, brother of retired Dodgers closer Todd Worrell, takes Berroa's roster spot.
