Montel Talks About His Double Mastectomy

The next time you click on TV and hear talk-show host Montel Williams looking deep into the eyes of a breast cancer patient and saying he sympathizes, check your cynicism.

Williams had a double mastectomy 23 years ago when he was a Marine. He told attendees at a breast cancer research funding gala in New York last Saturday that doctors found a lump in his chest, operated and then discovered it was benign, according to the New York Post.

Although he still has his nipples, ``there was moderate scarring'' that has faded. Since being misdiagnosed, Williams said he has built his chest back up by working out.

A CHRISTIAN BEGINNING Puff Daddy, a daddy in real life twice over, celebrated the christening of his infant son, Christian, at Tavern on the Green on Saturday, according to the New York Daily News. Also, in attendance was girlfriend Kim Porter, his baby's mama.

HOLLYWOOD LOVE Jim Carrey and Lauren Holly are splitsville again. Holly said the love affair broke up last year - despite their subsequent public appearances together, the New York Daily News reports.

A PLAYER'S LIFE Seattle SuperSonics' Greg Anthony, singer Isaac Hayes, Toronto Raptors' Charles Oakley, and superstar divorce attorney Raoul Felder were among the celebs spotted at a party for the dishy new book ``Homecourt Advantage'' Monday night at New York's tres chic B. Smith's.

The book, which just finished a nine-city tour produced by Philly's Vanesse Lloyd-Sgambatti, gives a fictionalized account of the off-the-court lives of professional basketball players. Patrick Ewing, a New York Knicks player and husband to Rita Ewing, a co-author, was noticeably absent. Crystal McCrary, the other author, is married to Anthony.

BAR RAP After being on the lam for a month, rapper Keith Murray is behind bars, serving a three-year sentence for assault. He turned himself in on Monday.

Murray was convicted for a 1995 fight at a nightclub, and failed to surrender on Sept. 24. Prosecutors said he beat 16-year-old David Hughes with a bar stool, leaving him with disfiguring scars on his head.

Murray's first album ``The Most Beautiful Thing in the World'' in 1994 went gold.

ICY HOT Olympic gold-medal winner Katarina Witt says it was her boyfriend's idea for her to pose nude in Playboy, the New York Post reports. Marcus Herrmann, who manages the rock group Knorr, ``wanted erotic pictures'' she jokes in the December magazine that appears on newsstands Nov. 1.
