Ballet Group Offers A Seasonal Standard

The West Chester Ballet Theatre will present the holiday classic The Nutcracker from Dec. 18 to 20 at Centennial Hall on the campus of the Haverford School in Haverford.

The West Chester Ballet, a regional nonprofit group, operates under the artistic direction of the Rock School of the Pennsylvania Ballet.

The opening-night performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. On Dec. 19, there will be two performances beginning at noon and 4 p.m. On Dec. 20, there will be an afternoon performance only at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children 15 and under. Here are other special holiday events and exhibits in Chester County:

East Coventry. The Owen J. Roberts Friends of the Arts' annual Holiday House Tour will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Coventry and Warwick area.

This year's tour will feature seven decorated homes as well as a historic church and two commercial architectural gems, including a large converted barn now used as an antiques shop.

Local crafters and artisans will display their wares at some of the sites.

In addition, many of the homes feature unusual collections of antiques, including toy trains and handmade quilts.

Tour stops include the Richard Dampman house in Warwick Village and the Samuel Shafer home in the village of Coventryville, which features six fireplaces and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Tickets are $10 per person and may be purchased after 9 a.m. in the lobby of the Owen J. Roberts Middle School. Maps of the tour site are included.

Immaculata. A Christmas pageant, featuring La Cantata dei Pastori (The Shepherd's Cantata) and other 17th-century Italian music, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Alumnae Hall of Immaculata College.

This concert will be performed by the professional repertory ensemble I Giullari di Piazza, a group of actors, musicians and singers who specialize in the music traditions of southern Italy.

Malvern. For the third consecutive year, the mutual-fund company the Vanguard Group has worked with the Delaware Valley Children's Charity, a nonprofit group that orchestrates holiday gift-giving for about 3,000 needy families in the area.
