Baroque Ensemble Offers Music And Musings

``Concerts and Conversations,'' a mix of music and musings, is the latest offering from Philomel, a baroque ensemble performing at three locations this weekend. During the program of Neapolitan and French concertos, the soloists will share insights into their music, instruments and careers.

At the conclusion, the audience may ask questions of Elissa Berardi on recorder; Nancy Wilson and David Myford on violin; Vivian Barton on cello; and Bruce Bekker on harpsichord.

The first performance is scheduled for 8 p.m. today at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Fishers Road, Bryn Mawr. The program will be repeated at 8 p.m. tomorrow at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Oakland Avenue and Pine Street, Doylestown, and 3 p.m. Sunday at Church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, St. Martin's Lane and Willow Grove Avenue, Chestnut Hill.

Tickets are $21 for preferred seating and $17 for general seating. There is a $4 discount for adults 65 and older and for students. For reservations, call 215-569-9700.

``The Music Man.'' The Newtown Arts Company will present The Music Man, the story of professor Harold Hill, a traveling con artist who stirs up trouble in River City. Performances of The Music Man, known for such songs as ``Seventy-six Trombones'' and ``Gary, Indiana,'' are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Jan. 30 at Newtown Junior High School, Route 332 and the Newtown Bypass. Tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for adults 62 and older and for students; and $6 for children 12 and younger. For information, call 215-860-7058.

Choral concert. The 85-voice Norristown Chorale will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday at Eisenhower Middle School, Markley Street and Coolidge Boulevard, Norristown. The program will include portions of the Mass set to music by various composers, including the Kyrie from the Mass in B minor by Bach. The vocalists, under the direction of Daniel J. Belmondo of Wynnewood, also will perform popular works, such as ``Sometimes'' by Henry Mancini. Tickets are $10. Children younger than 12 accompanied by an adult will be admitted free.
