What are the odds of being robbed twice within six months by the same bandit?

Donte Scott couldn't believe such a thing could happen to him.

But it did.

And he's grateful that he survived to tell about it, said Assistant District Attorney Dino Privitera yesterday.

Gunman Ronald Tann, 23, of Yewdall Street near Arch, shot Scott and almost killed him after robbing him on Locust Street near 49th on Aug. 21, 1997, said Privitera. He told Scott to run, then fired at him, Privitera said.

Six months later, Tann saw Scott again while searching the streets for someone to rob, said the prosecutor.

As Scott, a West Philadelphia barber, was talking on a telephone on Chestnut Street near 53rd on Feb. 3, 1998, Tann once again shoved a gun to Scott's head and demanded money, said Privitera.

Scott was in shock.

After taking cash and jewelry, Tann again ordered Scott to run and began shooting at him. This time he missed.

Privitera said during the first robbery, Scott was struck in the buttocks and suffered serious internal injuries. He spent about a month in a hospital.

Describing Tann as "one of the most violent and dangerous people I've seen," Common Pleas Judge Gregory E. Smith sentenced him to 121/2 to 25 years in prison.

"Mr. Scott is probably one of the luckest guys I know," said Privitera. "He was robbed and shot at twice by the same guy."
