Joseph Milgrim, 77, Executive, Philanthropist

Joseph Milgrim, 77, of Cherry Hill, a businessman, Jewish community leader and philanthropist, died of a heart attack Sunday at Virtua-West Jersey Hospital Voorhees.

Mr. Milgrim was president and a founding partner, with Leo Rubin, of Oak Valley Farms, a turkey-processing company in Voorhees and Watertown, S.D. He also was a partner and secretary of the Eljay Poultry Corp. of Voorhees.

Mr. Milgrim, who was born in Philadelphia, served in the Navy during World War II. He received a bachelor's degree from Delaware Valley College in 1950 and a master of science degree in agriculture from the University of Missouri.

He was president of the St. Louis Alpha Epsilon Pi Alumni Club of the University of Missouri and had just attended his 50th fraternal reunion.

Mr. Milgrim was past president of the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey; the Jewish Geriatric Home in Cherry Hill; the Jewish National Fund; and he was past chairman of State of Israel Bonds. He was also a trustee of the Saltzman Foundation; general chairman of the Allied Jewish Appeal for three years; a member of the board of directors of the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey; and a member of the national board of the United Jewish Appeal.

Mr. Milgrim was a recipient of the community service award of the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey, and he and his wife, Esther, were recipients of the Jewish Geriatric Home Lev Tov Award.

Mr. Milgrim was a member of Congregation Beth El and Woodcrest Country Club, both in Cherry Hill.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Esther Godfrey Milgrim; a son, Arthur; a daughter, Bobbi Witkowski; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today at Platt Memorial Chapels, 2001 Berlin Rd., Cherry Hill. Entombment will be in Crescent Burial Park in Pennsauken.
