The building has been designed to be a hub of an economic development, teleconferencing and videoconferencing network for a consortium of colleges, Pokrass said. In addition to Burlington County College, these schools include the New Jersey Institute of Technology, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Georgian Court College and Salem, Cumberland and Ocean County Colleges.
In addition, Pokrass said, Burlington County College will use the facility to reach out to businesses and other educational institutions.
The Mount Laurel campus, on Route 38 between Hartford and Briggs Roads, opened in 1995 with the technology and engineering center, a joint project of the college and New Jersey Institute of Technology. Additions included the Briggs Road classroom annex and the high-technology small-business incubator.
Next year, construction will begin on a classroom building to replace the leased space of the Briggs Road annex.

The consortium, which includes 30 institutions in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Delaware, is devoted to the expansion of instruction through telecommunications.
* The college will hold its second annual Veterans Day ceremony to honor students, staff and faculty recipients of the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the academic center atrium of the Pemberton Township campus. The state service medal is awarded to veterans who entered active duty in the military from New Jersey, served during a war or national emergency, earned a medal for valor during their military service, and were honorably discharged.
