Four Hurt In Accident, Shooting

Four people, including a 10-year-old girl, were injured last night in an apparently related traffic accident and shooting in Strawberry Mansion.

The girl, reportedly identified as Destiny Gonzalez, was walking in the area when she was shot in the shoulder. She was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where she was reported in fair condition. Three men were also hospitalized with serious injuries.

After being called to the 2900 block of Montgomery Avenue about 7:30 p.m., police found one car flipped upside down, riddled with bullet holes, along with several other smashed cars. Shell casings littered the area.

Police said that they did not know who did the shooting, but that investigators believe all three injured men, whose names were not released, had been in the car.

"We're trying to sort it out," Detective Walt Begnaud said.

One of the men was shot in the chest and taken to Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital, where he was reported in guarded condition.

Two other men later showed up at Temple University Hospital, one with a gunshot wound in the back and the other with facial injuries, as from a car accident. Both were reported in stable condition.

Begnaud said investigators were trying to figure out whether the shots preceded or followed the car crash and what sparked the incident.
