It Is Time To Swing Those Clubs For Charity

The golfing season traditionally begins in April, and charity tournaments emerge like buds on trees.

Chestnut Hill College, celebrating its 75th year, held an All-Women Golf Invitational on Wednesday at Sunnybrook Golf Club in Plymouth Meeting. The event is one of 200 or so annual charity tournaments in the Philadelphia area. The tournaments raise thousands of dollars for the beneficiaries, small and large.

Chestnut Hill will hold a mixed golf outing Oct. 9 at Whitemarsh Country Club. For information, call the school at 215-248-7137.

A list of some of the area's spring tourneys:

Edge Hill Rotary Club. The third annual golf classic will be at noon - shotgun start at 1 p.m. - tomorrow at Meadowbrook Golf Club at Korman Suites, 167 Meadowbrook Dr., Abington. On-course refreshments, a social hour, a buffet dinner and a silent auction are included in the $65-per-player cost. Lunch or dinner only is $25. Late registration is available. The event benefits Rotary projects, including Abington Child Care Programs, Step-by-Step Day Care, and Jenkintown Lady Drakes. Call 215-572-9958 for details.

American Lung Association. The Pennsylvania Southeastern Region's 11th annual golf invitational is at 11 a.m. - shotgun start at 1 p.m. - May 8 at Commonwealth National Golf Club, 250 Babylon Rd., Horsham. There will be a hole-in-one contest. Single golfer cost is $275. Proceeds support asthma-management programs for children. Registration deadline is tomorrow. Access Services. A benefit golf tournament is set for 10:45 a.m. - shotgun start at noon - May 15 at North Hills Country Club, 99 Station Ave., North Hills. The entry fee for each golfer is $135. BARC tourney. The Bucks Association for Retarded Citizens will hold its 20th tournament at the Huntingdon Valley Country Club, 2295 Country Club Dr., Huntingdon Valley, at 11 a.m. - shotgun start at 1 p.m. - May 15. The cost is $200 per golfer. Call 215-794-0800, Ext. 369 for details.

Pennridge Jaycees. The 11th annual golf classic begins with an 8 a.m. shotgun start May 27 at Macoby Run Golf Course, 5275 McLean Station Rd., Green Lane. Cost for each golfer is $75. Golf, cart, breakfast, lunch and prizes included. For information, call 215-453-0464.

Libertae. The ninth annual golf outing will be held at 11 a.m. - shotgun start at 1 p.m. - May 30 at Trenton Country Club, 201 Sullivan Way, Trenton. Golf, lunch, dinner and prizes are included in the $250 entry fee. Non-golfers' dinner is $100. The event benefits Libertae in Bensalem, which aids women recovering from chemical addiction. Kappa Alpha Theta. The 15th annual golf benefit for women only will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. June 5 at Center Square Golf Club, Route 73, Center Square. Luncheon follows play. Parkinson's Foundation. Kane Security Systems will present its fifth annual golf outing at 12:30 p.m. - shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. - June 10 at Middletown Country Club, 420 N. Wheels Medical Transportation. There will be a golf outing at 11:30 a.m. - shotgun start at 1 p.m. - June 14 at Sunnybrook Golf Club, Stenton Avenue and Joshua Road, Plymouth Meeting.
