Active Eric, 10, Has Several Interests

Posted: June 30, 2000

Eric, 10, is in a school program in which he gets to help others, play sports, and work with computers. He does his best in all areas and enjoys the activities.

As part of this program, Eric helps senior citizens with their grocery shopping, gathering items from a shopping list and paying for them with the money he's given.

Among Eric's favorite activities are bowling, swimming, playing baseball and roller-blading. He also likes riding his bike, potting plants and watching them grow, dancing, and going to church.

Though testing shows a slightly below-average IQ, Eric is doing well in special-education classes on second- and third-grade levels. His strong points are math and social studies. Medication is given for an attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Therapy is helping him deal with neglect and multiple placements and is preparing him for adoption.

He's considering becoming a police officer, firefighter or pilot when he's older. He likes to watch the news with his foster mother and discuss what is happening.

Eric is in good health and is eligible for financial subsidy.

This child and others are available for adoption. The process usually takes 2 to 12 months. For information, write to: National Adoption Center, c/o Paddy Noyes, 1500 Walnut St., Suite 701, Philadelphia 19102; call 215-735-9988, or visit the website at www.adopt.org
