This column is dedicated to all those who work or live in the suburbs and spent 31/2 hours traveling 20 miles during Monday's freak snowstorm. My fun carpool buddy and I spent the whole time listening to "Fresh Air," school closings on KYW, Jay-Z, all the while cursing and admiring the winter wonderland outside.

What we really could have used was Luna (8 tonight at the Trocadero, 10th and Arch streets, 215-922-LIVE, $14), whose frontman Dean Wareham embodies icy beauty. Remember, he was the one who once sang, "And in my dreams, I slash your tires." In this cruel world, Luna is label-less, but have released "Live," which is probably like "At the Budokan" to fans who've been waiting what seems like an eternity for something new from a band that has steadily perfected its live shows. Matt Pond PA opens, followed by an afterparty in the Balcony by the Spaceboy Records staff spinning God knows what.

The Stuntmen celebrate the release of "Small Time" (on Carbon 14's Steel Cage Records), a hearty mix of garage, punk and metal that does what good rock music does: makes you forget where one subgenre begins and ends. Also on the bill is Andy G. and the Roller Kings, a New York City trash rock supergroup with former members of the Devil Dogs and the Cramps. Rounding out a great bill is the Durty Vicars, which is about to go on hiatus to replace New Orleans-bound drummer Halsey.

Other options for tomorrow: Elephant 6 meets Philly pop with Of Montreal and Echo Orbiter (10 p.m. tomorrow, at the Balcony, 10th and Arch streets, 215-922-LIVE, $8).

Killtime (39th Street and Lancaster Avenue) hosts an all-ages, punk rock blowout at 6 p.m. tomorrow with Trailer Trash UK, Thorazine, Wasteland Babies, the Transfusions, the Overprivileged, No Future, and Mohawk Barbie. For more information go to: hometown.aol.com/killtimeshows.

Helium frontwoman Mary Timony and local singer-songwriter Cynthia Mason are expertly matched at the Khyber with Wobbly opening (10 p.m. tomorrow, 56 S. 2nd St., 215-238-5888, $8). The Pop Quiz, delayed last week due to weather, is back at the Five Spot at 8 p.m. Monday (5 Bank St., 215-574-0070, free admission, $5 to play). Whether you're trying to beat the City Paper team or just impressing (or in some cases scaring) your friends with otherwise useless rock minutiae, it's all in good fun.

Mojave 3 brings its lonely hearts club band to the North Star Bar at 9 p.m. Tuesday (27th and Poplar streets, 215-684-0808, www.northstarbar.com, $10 in advance, $12 day of show). Mojave's third album, "Excuses for Travelers" (4AD), is the mix tape for the kids in the Nick Drake "Pink Moon" Volkswagen ad who never wanted their journey to end.
