Burger King Recalls Kids Meal Toy Boat

WASHINGTON — Burger King Corp. and Alcone Marketing Group are recalling 400,000 "Rattling, Paddling Riverboat" Kids Meal toys distributed nationwide in January and February, Burger King said yesterday.

The red plastic boats, 2 to 3 inches in diameter, contain a metal pin with a plastic cap that attaches the paddle wheel to the boat, the No. 2 hamburger chain said in a statement. The pin may come out and pose a choking hazard to small children. Alcone Marketing Group, based in Irvine, Calif., imported the China-made toys for Burger King.

No injuries have been reported, though Burger King has received 10 reports of the pin coming out. About 200,000 of the toys were sold, Burger King spokeswoman Kim Miller said. The others were removed from Burger King outlets.

Parents are advised to take the toys away from children and call 1-800-661-9173 for information on returning the toy for a free replacement, or check http://www.burgerking.com.

The Burger King action comes a week after McDonald's voluntarily recalled about 234,000 toys that come with the restaurant chain's Happy Meals after learning three children had choked or gagged on the "Scooter Bug" antenna, which is prone to breaking off.

The toys were distributed with McDonald's Happy Meals from November of last year through February in Canada and the United States. They can be exchanged at any McDonald's restaurant.

Miami-based Burger King recalled another Kids Meal toy, Pokemon balls, in 1999 after at least two young children suffocated on them.
