Robert Iler, the 16-year-old who plays the troubled son of mob boss Tony Soprano on the HBO series The Sopranos, has been booked on robbery and drug-possession charges, police said yesterday.

The actor was arrested early yesterday with three other teens after they allegedly robbed two boys of about $40 on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Police searched the area and arrested Iler and the three others in John Jay Park. Iler, handcuffed and with a stoic expression, was taken to central booking in a police van along with two of the other suspects. The third, a 15-year-old, was released to the custody of his parents.

The teens had no criminal records. They were being held on a robbery charge yesterday. Iler also was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.

Bad vibrations

* Beach Boys cofounder Brian Wilson, who has a concert date with Paul Simon on July 18 at the Tweeter Center, says his struggle with mental illness has sometimes extended to the stage.

"I'm thinking, 'God help me if I get these crazy thoughts in my head,' you know. I have auditory hallucinations that I get," Wilson told ABC's Good Morning America in an interview that aired Tuesday. "Voices saying, 'I'm going to hurt you, we're going to kill you, we're going to kill' - you know, crazy stuff."

At 59, Wilson said he would always be on medication to treat his condition.

Last night he was honored with An All-Star Tribute to Brian Wilson featuring Ricky Martin, Billy Joel and Vince Gill, which was shown on TNT.

More gold for McCartney

* More than 30 years after the Beatles split up, Paul McCartney is still holding his own as one of the top-selling recording artists in the United States. His latest album, Wingspan: Hits and History, has earned the British rock icon his 21st gold disc in the United States.

McCartney shares the record for the artist with the most gold discs with fellow British rocker Eric Clapton, McCartney publicist Geoff Baker said.

The discs are awarded by the Recording Industry Association of America. Clapton earned his 21st gold disc this year for the album Reptile. A gold disc represents sales of 500,000 copies. McCartney's album has since gone double platinum, with sales of two million.

McCartney's next album, as yet untitled, will be his first featuring new songs since Flaming Pie in 1997.

Another "X-Files" exit

* Mulder's gone. Now Scully is easing toward the door, too. Gillian Anderson, 32, says this fall will begin her final season on the Fox series The X-Files.
