Sixers routed by Celtics in summer play

BOSTON — Joe Johnson and Milt Palacio scored 21 points each to lead the Boston Celtics to an 80-62 rout of the 76ers in the Shaw Pro Summer League yesterday.

The Sixers, who received 18 points from Raja Bell, fell to 3-2. The Celtics improved to 4-1.

Rookie center Alvin Jones grabbed eight rebounds and scored six points for the 76ers. Jumaine Jones scored 11 points but shot just 3 for 10 from the floor.

Sixers guard Speedy Claxton had as many turnovers as points - six - while handing out three assists. Overall, the Sixers shot just 32.8 percent from the field (22 for 67).

Johnson had five assists and eight rebounds for the Celtics.

The Celtics led by 23-14 at the end of the first quarter and 46-30 at the half.
