More kudos for Masch

I write in response to the recent revelation that Michael Masch, former city budget director, vice president of budget and management at the University of Pennsylvania, and one of the mayor's appointees to the Philadelphia School Reform Commission, does not hold a bachelor's degree (article Jan. 30).

Given my experience as a student of Mr. Masch, I was surprised that he does not hold a college degree. What I was not surprised about was the simultaneous revelation that at no time did he ever mislead anyone as to his academic record.

Mr. Masch is beyond a doubt one of the most knowledgeable and committed educators I have ever known.

I am very glad that leaders of the university and the city have the good sense not to elevate form over substance to such an absurd degree as to deprive the students and citizens of the wisdom and expertise of such a fine educator and dedicated public servant as Mr. Masch.

More criticism on Kim

I thought the Daily News was in extremely poor taste in running Kim Delaney's mug shot on the front page. Kim made a serious mistake, and I'm sure she'll be punished for it, but you shouldn't kick somebody when they're down.
