Brueghel painting stolen
A painting by the Flemish master Jan Brueghel was stolen from an antiques fair in Stockholm on Sunday, police said. The painting, A View Over Alost, is estimated by art experts to be worth $2.5 million. The thief had apparently hidden on the premises overnight and took off with the Brueghel and four other paintings, all of which were insured, in daylight after the fair opened. Police did not catch him.
The theft is the second in Stockholm involving famous works of art in just over a year. In December 2000, armed robbers stole paintings by Rembrandt and Renoir from a museum. Nine people have been sentenced to prison for that theft, but two of the paintings are still missing.

During a joint interview on CBS's Early Show two years ago, Lachey said, "The first time I ever heard her sing, I got chills. . . . I told the guys . . . 'I'm going to marry that girl one day.' " He says he has remained faithful to his 21-year-old fiancee. She has proclaimed that she's holding onto her virginity until she gets married. No wedding date has been set.
Mexican diva gives birth
Disgraced pop queen Gloria Trevi, who was often called Mexico's Madonna, gave birth to a boy yesterday in police custody at a hospital in Brazil, where she is battling extradition to Mexico on sex-abuse charges. The birth of Trevi's baby, conceived in a Brazilian jail where conjugal visits were banned, is part of the saga that has intrigued the region since she was arrested in Rio de Janeiro in January 2000.
